Jv goes 1-0-1 and Varsity 1-1 over opening weekend…Look for improvement at the Cold Turkey!!

by Coach Elliott on December 7, 2021

The Wildcats kicked off the regular season this past weekend with a pair of games at Tam-o-Shanter. Friday Night the Cats took a 2-1 win in the varsity game while the JV settled for a 1-1 tie vs Cincinnati Moeller.

The JV got in the win column on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Findlay, but the Varsity suffered their 1st loss by a score of 3-1.

Friday night the Cats took the lead on the strength of a power play goal from Junior Tryston Harrell. Junior Mason Crandell and senior Captain Mikey Burton drew assist on the 1st official goal of 2021. the Cats were on the bad side of some misfortune midway thru the 3rd as a centering pass by Moeller accidentally deflected off a Wildcat stick and past Junior Net minder Austin Nowak to tie the game at 1. The Cats wouldn’t let the game slip away however as with just 11 seconds left in the game Junior Defenseman Riley Ames took a pass from fellow Junior Landon Elliott and hit for the game winner on the power play! Junior CJ Lehman drew a secondary assist and Nowak made it stand as he stopped 19 of the 20 shots to pick up the win.

Saturday evening the Cats played well but came out on the wrong side of a 3 to 1 score. Findlay earned some puck luck with some determined play as 2 rebounds deflected past Nowak along with the Trojans converting on a nice 2 on 1 play for a 3 to 0 lead. Harrells 2nd in 2 games drew the Cats to 3 to 1 early in the 3rd but the offense was unable to mount much more in the comeback attempt. Burton and Junior Benny Seals picked up assist and Nowak stopped 23 but it was not enough on this night.
