Undermanned Cats up and down at Cold Turkey

by Coach Elliott on December 2, 2014

The Northview Wildcats kicked off the regular season this past weekend as host of their annual cold turkey holiday tournament at Tam-o-shanter. The Cats would do so without key pieces of the team as 6 varsity team members would be out of the lineup as a young team hit the ice for action Friday evening vs Villanova high school out of Ontario Canada. The Cats would get on the board twice in the 1st period to jump out to a 2 to 0 lead. Drew Beattie’s 1st career goal and a goal from Senior Zach Galecki put the Cats out Front. Villanova would score the next 3 to take a 3 to 2 lead before Zach Doner scored to finish off a 3 point night to earn the Cats a 3 to 3 tie.

Saturday morning the Cats again jumped on top with a goal from Zach Galecki and a pair of nice individual efforts from senior Captain Ian Clement for a 3 to 0 lead. Preston Due was sharp in goal allowing just a single goal on 44 shots to earn the victory in a 3 to 1 win.

Saturday evening was a different story. League favorite St. Francis scored 5 unanswered to shutout the Cats. Jared Wulf played well in making 51 saves, but a barrage of opportunities were too much to overcome.

The Cats wrapped up tournament play on Sunday morning with a lackluster effort versus Gilmour academy. Junior Brendan Pierson scored the lone goal late in the third as the Cats skated to a 1 to 1 tie.

At 1-1-2 the Cats will head into league action this Saturday night with arch rival St. Johns. Game time is set for 7 as the Cats look to get off to a good start in the chase for a league title.
