Cats split games while going 2-2 in Cold Turkey

by Coach Elliott on December 9, 2019

The Northview Wildcats pushed their win streak to 3 games to start the season in the opener of last weekend’s Cold Turkey Tournament. However a couple of losses on Saturday had the Cats settling for a consolation game win Sunday and push their overall record to 4-2.

On Black Friday the Cats opened up tournament play with a convincing 7-3 win over the Newark Generals. Seniors Jeffrey Wood, Jimmy Roberts, Justin Beaverson and Junior David Crandall helped the Cats jump all over the Generals for a 4-0 lead after 1. Woods Second of the game along with Dougie Carter and the career 1st from David Younger provided the final 3 goals.

Saturday was a different story. While the Cats play was good overall their inability to finish quality scoring opportunities and take control of two close games led to disappointing late game losses to St. Andrews and St. Edwards. In the morning game the Cats once again jumped out to a lead as Jimmy Roberts continued his torrid start with a pair of goals. However Northview could not put Andrews away and it cost them. A goal late in the 2nd helped St. Andrew seize momentum and 2-3rd period goals including the game winner on the power play with just 1:21 left proved to be the winner in a 3-2 loss. That evening was a very similar game. Spencer Atkins’ power play goal tied the game in the 2nd at 1. It would stay that way until a controversial goal from Eds just under 3 minutes left. The Cats pushed back and looked to have a goal of their own but it was determined it did not cross the goal line and Northview fell by 1 again 2 to 1. A strong game from Junior goalie Tyler Clem was not enough on this night.

The Cats would have to settle for a consolation game where they would once again face St. Andrews. This time Northview would not let it go down to the end in a 5-2 win. A pair from Wood along with the seasons 1st on a great individual effort from Griffin Muir along with goals from Carter and Beaverson provided enough offense and Clem was strong once again to pick up his 4th win on the season.

Northview will return to league play this upcoming weekend for a pair of games in the NHC. Friday the welcome back Bowling Green to the league after a year off to Tamo for a 7:00 Start before taking on Findlay on Saturday at 8 also at Tamo. The Jv team will also be in action both nights as they play St. Francis Friday and Findlay Saturday both games are slated for 9 at Tamo.
