Cats split 4 games over weekend

by Coach Elliott on December 3, 2009

The Wildcat hockey team started the 2009-10 season as host of their annual Cold Turkey holiday Tournament. After tough losses to St. Eds and St. Francis the Cats rebounded with a pair of wins over Maryland DeMatha Catholic.

In the first game the Cats were shutout by St. Edwards 3-0. Numerous scoring chances were denied by St. Edwards and the Cats were unable to break the shutout as Josh Krispin’s first career goal was called off due to an inadvertent whistle.

The next Morning the Cats were throttled 5-0 by St. Francis.  Nothing seemed to go the Cats way as they gave up 2 short-handed goals. Tyler Harding provided the only excitiment with his big hit during the 2nd period of play.

Saturday evening the Cats earned their first win of the season 3-2 over DeMatha. Aaron Booth scored the Cats first goal of the season. while Dalton Carter and Nolan CUlver each chipped in with a goal apiece. Austin Gryca made 24 saves in the win for the Cats.

The Following morning the Cats again played Dematha in the consolation game. The Cats played more inspired and cruised to a 7-0 win. Matt Stevenson only needed to make 10 saves for the shutout win. Booth led the way for the offense with a hat trick and Josh Krispin got his first career goal for the second time, only this time it  counted. Brent Easton, Drew Korn and Mark Hall rounded out the scoring for the Cats.

This weekend the Cats will open up conference play with a pair of games at Tam-o-Shanter. Friday they take on rival St. Johns at 7. Saturday the Cats host Findlay also at 7. Please come out and support your Cats as they go for their 3rd league title in 5 years.
