Wildcats rebound from tough OT loss to SJJ to earn weekend split

by Coach Elliott on January 9, 2020

The Northview Wildcats split a pair of league games over the weekend to move to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in league play. Northview lost a tough one Friday to SJJ 3-2 in OT before defeating new league red foe Perrysburg 4-2 Saturday evening.

On Friday the Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one period of play. Senior Lauren Elliott joined 2018 graduate Maizy Crandall as the only females to ever score for the Varsity Cats to tie the game at 1 with her career 1st 5 minutes into the 2nd. Some undisciplined play led to the Cats having to kill 7 penalties including 4 5-3 opportunities for the Titans while earning just 1 chance on the powerplay. The Titans cashed in on 1 5 on 3 just a minute into the final period to regain the lead. However Griffin Muir converted off a nice pass from David Crandall to tie it once again. After 45 minutes of play the game headed to overtime. The Cats had a few great chances to win it before the Titans got loose for the eventual game winner mid-way through the extra frame. Junior made 21 saves in the thriller!

Saturday afternoon the Cats rebounded to earn a 4-2 win over Perrysburg. Junior Scotty Schwartz’s career 1st highlighted the evening as his tally with 4:57 left in the 3rd gave the Cats a 4-0 lead. Northview let off the gas a bit at the end and surrendered 2 goals int he final 2:30 minutes but held on to earn their 4th league win.

Northview will head out of town the next 2 weekends for the Padua Invitational in Cleveland and the Hockey Scholastic Showcase in Pittsburg. They will return to NW Ohio January 4th for a game in BG and at Tamo the following day on January 5th for a out of conference game with Shaker Heights @ 1:00.
