Bad loss to Findlay, Great win over St. Johns highlight up and down weekend!!

by Coach Elliott on January 21, 2014

The Wildcats kept their roller-coaster season going this weekend in all to familiar fashion. As they have all season the Cats managed to throw out 2 different teams using the same lineup in an ugly loss to Findlay followed up with perhaps their finest win of the season versus St. Johns!

On Friday night the Cats welcomed former coach Jim Cooper back to the bench. Unfortunetaly for Coach Coop the Cats play led to a 4 to 1 defeat versus the Trojans. 3 goals in a span of 5 minutes to end the 2nd period broke open a tie game to send the Cats to their 10th defeat and 3rd in league play.

After a Saturday morning meeting the Cats came with a renewed focus and determination versus St. Johns.  However much like on Friday evening the Cats fell behind even though they were playing a very strong game. Josh Kobacks goal was answered by 3 for the Titans and after 2 periods of play Northview trailed 3 to 1. Unlike Friday evening the Cats overcame the adversity and scored 2 times in the 3rd to send the game to overtime. 1st Zac Galecki scored to bring the Cats to within 1, finishing off a nice pass from Ian Clement.  Then Koback hit for a 2nd time minutes later to knot the game at 3.  Bailey Brietigam nearly put the Cats on top in just his 2nd game back from a bought with Mono, but his shot off the post stayed out of the net and the teams were headed to overtime. It was Galecki’s 2nd of the game with just under 2 minutes left that delivered the win for Northview 4 to 3.  his rebound goal off a great effort from Clement lifted the Cats to their 2nd league win of the season.

This was the best team effort of the season. Great minutes from the white unit of Zac Doner, Brad Crandall, Adam Felser and led by senior center Ben Suchomma helped to keep the top 2 units fresh. Inspired play from a composed and disciplined Kooper Carter helped lead his defense along with fellow seniors Breitigam and Troy/Travis Geer. Seniors Caleb Rau, Jake Koback and Cody Estrel leading both on and off the ice and David Marsh overcoming a few fluky goals to deliver in the 3rd period and OT to back his team.

The Cats will hit the road over the next 2 weekends in hopes of keeping the momentum from this game going. They will travel to Meadville Pennsylvania next weekend before a 1-night trip to South bend Indiana the following weekend. A makeup game versus BG will be sandwiched in between on Friday Jan. 24th. Good luck Cats!!
