Dalton Carter Committs to U-mass Lowell of Hockey East as Northview Hockey continues to produce top end talent!!

by Coach Elliott on February 24, 2014

High school hockey is a waste!! You can’t play anywhere after highschool… you need to play travel and Jr.s!!! That is all you have heard over the years from the nay sayers of highschool hockey. But for the 2nd time in 6 years the Cats of Northview highschool have been a stepping stone to send a player to a top 10 team in NCAA division 1 hockey. In January 2007, 6 months after graduation, then Mahoning Valley Phantom and 2006 NV graduate Alden Hirschfeld signed on with the #1 ranked Miami Redhawks where he captained the 2012 team and graduated. Alden is now making his mark in the professional leagues with both the Toledo Walleye and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.

Now it is Dalton Carter’s turn to follow his dreams of playing big time college hockey. After helping guide the Cats to their first ever state championship in 2012 Dalton has continued to grow as part of the Northern Cyclones of the Eastern Hockey League. This past weekend Dalton was offered an unusual situation to leave the Cyclones midway through the season and join U-Mass Lowell for the 2nd half of their season. U-Mass Lowell currently sits #8 in the nation and is in 5th in the hockey east standings (though with games in hand could leapfrog teams up to 2nd with wins). Dalton will help fill an immediate need on the defensive unit as the Riverhawks have lost a couple players to injury and the NHL with Chad Ruhwedel signing with the Buffalo Sabres. Dalton will get his 1st climpse at college hockey this weekend as his Riverhawks host Merrimack at the Tsongas Center in Mass. on Friday night. Conrats Dalton your family here at Sylvania Northview wishes you the best of luck!!!

2013 Grads Drew Crandall and Zander Pryor have also produced positive results in their 1st seasons in high end Junior leagues.

Along with 2004 Grads Brett Molnar and Larry Willard and 2006 grad Tim Hurst Northview High school continues to lead the way for moving players to college programs here in Northwest ohio!!!!!!!
