Cats rebound after ugly loss to finish regular season strong and celebrate their seniors!

The Northview Wildcats looked good to great mixed in with some ugly in the final 2 weekends of the regular season. In the end they prepared well for the playoffs and honored their seniors with a great win on senior night.

The 1st of the final 5 games of the regular season did not go as planned as numerous scoring opportunities were wasted over the net or thwarted by St. Johns senior netminder Will Halker in a disappointing 2 to 1 loss. Senior David Crandall found the net in the 3rd but it was not enough.

Saturday evening the Cats celebrated their seniors with a ceremony before hosting Findlay. Senior netminder was stellar as he guided the Cats to a 3-0 win as he shutout the Trojans. 3 goals in the 2nd period paced the offense. Sophomore Trystan Harrell scored to open it up and Senior Cam Horvath and a beautiful individual effort from Junior Josh Bisson for a shorthanded goal helped to finish off the win.

This past weekend the Cats finished off regular season play before heading out of town for a pair of games in Cleveland. On Friday night the Cats defeated to Anthony Wayne Generals 5-0 after they payed respect to Jackson Weis and hosted his family to Tamo. Clem pitched the shutout and also picked up an assist while Bisson paced the offense with a pair of goals. Benny Seals opened the scoring just 37 seconds in and Seniors Camren Horvath and David Crandall also scored as part of their 2 point nights. It was a great way to finish off conference play, but this night belonged to the Weis family as we were all reminded WHY we play the game!!

Northview then headed out of town to take on a strong U16 AAA Gilmore Academy team in Strongsville Saturday evening. Sophomore Austin Nowak was excellent in the net as the Cats picked up their 3rd straight shutout in the 2 to 0 win. Relentless pressure from the Cats finally paid off as Horvath’s shot deflected home for a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period. It stayed that way with both goalies making some fantastic saves before Bisson kept his scoring touch going by hitting the empty net to seal the win.

The Cats finished off the weekend and the regular season with a strong effort vs #4 ranked St. Ignatius. Unfortunately the start was anything but strong. 2 goals in the 1st minute and a half put the Cats in a hole they were unable to climb out of. Seals power play goal pulled the Cats to within 1 and the Cats fought hard to the end but Crandall’s late goal would not be enough as Ignatius alos hit in the 3rd period to skate away with the 3 to 2 win. Nowak rebounded after the early goals to play well but it wasn’t enough.

With the regular season in the books, Northview will open up tournament play as the #2 seed in the NHC district. They play host to Whitmer this Friday night @ 8 at Tam-o-Shanter. Follow along as the Cats look to make it down to Columbus and the State Frozen Four. You may view the entire bracket by clicking the link below.

Good Luck Cats!!
