Cats win Trinty Christmas Invitational

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

The Northview Wildcats pushed their win streak to 7 by capturing the Trinity Christmas Invitational. The win moved the Cats overall record to 15-4 as they get ready for the second half of the season.

In the first game Northview took on Avon Lake. 2 goals by Carter Bourland, 1 each from Brent Bain, Brandon Snead, Jon Hymore, and the career first from Mychal Montieth provided the offense as Craig Trego picked up his 3rd shutout of the season in the 6-0 win.

The next evening the Cats took on Lake Catholic. Great goaltending and timely goal scoring by Lake put the Cats in a 2-0 hole. Northview responded with goals by Tyler and Matt Cook in a span of 19 seconds to tie it at 2. Mark Hall and Tyler Puhl also lit the lamp in the 2nd period rally to give the Cats a 4-2 lead heading to the third period. Lake scored again, but Matt Cook responded for the 5-3 win.

The next Morning Northview finished off pool play with Mentor. Inspired by the Cleveland Browns special teams, Bobby Napierala responded with 2 goals in the first shift of the game. A host of Wildcats joined in the fun as George Wilkinson added a pair along with single markers from Kyle Hymore, Brent Bain, Tyler Puhl, Matt Cook and Ian Kelsey. Craig Trego made 25 saves in the win to put the Cats in the Championship game.

That evening the Cats took on North Olmsted for the Championship. A balanced attack from Northview was too much for Olmsted. 6 different Cats scored while Trego picked up his 4th shutout in a 6-0 win. Matt Cook, Brandon Snead, Kyle Hymore, Mychal Montieth, George Wilkinson and Carter Bourland all scored as the Cats skated away with the Championship Trophy.

Northview returns to league play this weekend with cross town rival Southview at Tam-O-Shanter on Friday at 7. They will also travel to the house of pain for a meeting with Findlay on Saturday.

Cats win Tam-o International

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

The Northview Wildcats Captured the Tam-O-Shanter International Tournament with an impressive 4-1 win over St. Francis on Saturday December 23rd. The title game was a rematch of Thursday’s game in which the Knights came away with a 3-1 victory.

In the first contest the Cats were outworked for a majority of the game. They kept the game close on a goal by Matt Cook and solid goaltending from Craig Trego. However St. Francis put the game away with an empty net goal late in the third as the Cats just missed on a couple of quality scoring opportunity.

Friday Evening the Cats rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Gilmour Academy. A hat trick from Freshman George Wilkinson, 2 goals from Carter Bourland and a single goal by Matt Cook provided the offense, while Trego turned away 22 of 23 shots for the victory.

Saturday morning the Cats faced off against Upper Arlington. Matt Cook took a turn with a hat trick of his own and Brandon Snead also scored in the 4-2 win.

2 victories put the Cats into a Championship game rematch with St. Francis. After a Captains only meeting led by Senior Jon Hymore, the Cats played perhaps 1 of their finest games of the season. Tyler Puhl got the Cats on the board with a power play goal near the end of the 1st. St. Francis would tie it before Brandon Snead scored what would be the eventual game winner near the end of the second. Brent Bain and Wilkinson scored insurance goals in the third to give the Cats the title 4-1.

The Cats will travel to Trinity for the Christmas Invitational on December 28th through the 30th.
