Varsity Cats Look to Right the Ship With 2 Huge League Games While the JV Cats hope to Continue their Winning Ways!

by Coach Elliott on December 15, 2023

After a rough start to league play in a 3 to 1 loss vs Findlay and a tough lesson over in Cleveland vs St. Ignatius, the Northview Varsity will look to get back in the win column as they return to league play with games vs Perrysburg and St. Francis at TamoShanter this weekend.

Last Saturday night the Cats dropped their league opener as the offence could never get on track and 2 3rd period goals by the Trojans led to a 3 to 1 loss. Junior Holden Brighty finished off a nice 2 on 1 pass from Freshman Liam Elliott to tie the game in the 2nd but Ayden Crandall’s 34 saves weren’t enough this night.

The Cats didn’t have long to lick their wounds as they traveled to Cleveland the following morning for a game with Ohio powerhouse St. Ignatius. The young Cats showed promise at times but inexperience also showed as they fell 6-1. Senior Keegan Draper found a loose puck off a shot from Junior Cole Ames to score and Elliott picked up his 2nd assist of the weekend. Fellow Freshman Parker Palcisko played extremely well, but 43, many high quality, shots were a bit much to ask on this day.

At 2 and 4 overall, It will take a strong effort if the Cats hope to pick up a pair of league wins and even their record.

The Junior Varsity Cats continued their strong start and playing with just 1 roster after a split roster in the Cold Turkey, they dominated Findlay and Shaker Heights in route to a pair of shutout wins. Saturday Freshman Gavin Smith pitched the 5 to 0 win and Fellow Gavin, Pellek, secured an 8 to 0 win Sunday. Pellek is now 4-0 with 2 shutouts on the young season as he continues to improve with each start!! Sophomores Noah Ellis, Jackson Nowak and Boston Kopke Continue to pace the JV Cats in overall scoring while Freshman Madden Brighty’s 3 goals and 4 assist led the way over the weekend.

JV Kicks off the weekend tonight at 6:30 with the varsity to follow at 9 vs Perrysburg. Tomorrow the Varsity will take on the Knights at 3 followed by the JV tilt at 5.
