The Northview Hockey program continued their steady improvements and strong seasons as they won 5 games with a tie this weekend to propel the JV into a tie with just 1 loss in the NHC while the Varsity gained ground with 4 league games remaining for the varsity and 3 for the JV.

Friday night the Cats traveled to BGSU for a double header with Anthony Wayne. The Varsity took advantage of an undermanned Generals team in an 8-1 victory. The special teams were special as the power play scored on 3 straight chances and the pnealty killed chipped in with a shorty. Junior Tryston Harrell had one of each in a 5 point effort while fellow juniors Benny Seals had 2 goals and 2 assist and CJ Lehman 2 and 1. Landon Elliott and Mason Crandell also also scored and chipped in with an assist each. Senior Brenden Shadle relieved Austin Nowak in the 3rd as the pair held AW to just the 1 goal. Senior Captain Tucker Ludwig returned to the lineup for a solid road win.

In the nightcap the JV used stingy defense and solid goaltending from Sophomore Ayden Crandall for a 1-0 win. Junior Defenseman Connor Huffman scored the eventual game winner for the Cats JV.

Saturday the Cats faced off with St. Francis in a double header at Tam-o-Shanter. The JV Cats got it going 1st as they picked up a solid 5-2 win. Crandall picked up the win and Ben Graeff led the offense! Huffman picked up a 2nd in 2 nights and Jonny Rove and Zach Denny also scored in the big win!

The Varsity finished off the sweep of the Knights with a smothering Defensive effort for a 1-0 shutout win in the 2nd game. The Cats had to hold off a strong rally at the end but otherwise controlled the pace of the game and limited the Frannies offense to mostly outside shots and few odd man rushes! Landon Elliott’s power play goal early in the 1st is all they would need as Junior Goaltender Austin Nowak continued his excellent play with his 5th shutout of the season and 3rd in 13 days over the #1,2 and 6 ranked teams in the state!

The Cats didn’t get to celebrate for long as they were back on the yellow bus Sunday morning for a 2nd trip to BGSU for a JV game with Perrysburg and a varsity tilt vs Bowling Green. The JV Cats took care of business in the morning game with a 6 to 1 win. Shadle picked up the win this time and Graeff scored another pair of goals. Keegan Draper, Josh Miller, Greg Vavrinek and Cole Ames also found the back of the net to finish off the impressive weekend for the JV Cats!

The Varsity looked to put an exclamation point on the weekend with a tough assignment coming off 2 games and an emotional Saturday night. With tired legs the Cats fought hard and earned a 2-2 tie with the #9 ranked Bobcats. Twice the Cats jumped on top as goals from Harrell on a nice stretch pass from Elliott and Seals on the power play gave them the lead. But to BG’s credit they responded both times. After the rink prematurely ended the game on the curfew clock with 5:34 left in the extra session the teams would have to settle for the tie.

With the 3 wins the JV Cats now sit at an impressive 16-5-1 overall and 6-1 in league play. With an 8-2-1 start to the 2nd half of the season the Varsity Cats have crawled closer to the >500 mark at 10-14-3 overall and 3-4-1 in league play.

The Teams will look for a pair of victories each this weekend at Tamo as they host Perrysburg Friday night and Anthony Wayne Saturday night on Senior night. Game times are slated for 5:00 and 6:30 on Friday and 5:30 and 7:00 on Saturday. Come on out and support your Cats and help honor our seniors!!
