Cats remain perfect in 2021

The Northview Wildcats improved to 5-0 in 2021 with 3 shutout wins over this past weekend to push their overall record to 8-5-3 and 3-1 in the NHC Red division.

The Cats got the weekend rolling by jumping all over rival St. Johns Friday Evening. Griffin Muir’s goal just 43 seconds in set the tone as Northview would go on to score 5 in the 1st period. David Crandall and the Career 1st from Sophomore Mason Crandell made it 3-0 just over 4 minutes in as the Cats never looked back. Senior Camren Horvath Power Play goal and linemate Josh Bisson pushed the lead to 5-0 after 1. The Cats hit for 2 more in the 2nd as Sophomore Landon Elliott finished off a nice pass from Bisson for a shorthanded goal and Junior Tucker Ludwig scored his 2nd in 2 games for the final margin. Sophomore netminder Austin Nowak made 17 stops to preserve his 1st shutout as a Cat in the win.

Saturday evening the Cats took on a determined Cincinnati Moeller squad. Goals were at a premium on this night as senior goalie Tyler CLem locked up in a goaltender duel in the 1-0 win. Though the Cats outshot Moeller 40-20 both teams had glorious chances for the win. Elliott scored the only goal midway through the 2nd and Clem stood tall in a hard fought 3rd period to preserve a second straight shutout for Northview!

After an off day on Sunday the Cats traveled to BGSU for a league makeup game with the Bobcats of Bowling Green on MLK day. The Cats once again started fast as they were relentless in a strong 1st period. Unfortunately they were unable to crack BG goalie Gavin Sudlow until late in the 1st when Crandall finished off a flurry of shots to give Northview a much deserved 1-0 lead. Camren Horvath made it 2-0 and earned himself ESPN SportsCenter #1 play of the day on their top 10 with his lacrosse style goal. Sophomore Trystan Harrell made it 3-0 with a powerplay goal after 2 periods. Sophomore Riley Ames and a 2nd from Horvath both shorthanded sealed the impressive 5-0 shutout win. Nowak tagged back in and made 16 saves to run his goalless streak to 116 minutes!

The Cats return to NHC play for 3 crucial games to keep pace with St. Francis and a league championship. Tonight they will have a rematch with BG at Tamo before traveling to BGSU on Saturday to take on Anthony Wayne and a Sunday matinee with Findlay down at the CUBE.
