Cats capture Mayors Cup on senior night.

by Coach Elliott on February 5, 2007

The Wildcats improved to 5-3 in league play and 21-9-1 overall with a 6-1 win over cross town rival Southview. Seniors Matt Cook, Jon Hymore, Nic Saenz and Ian Kelsey were honored before the game before helping their Cats capture their 25th Mayors cup in 31 years.

Northview scored first as Brent Bain converted a pass from Brandon Snead to make it 1-0. George Wilkinson made it 2-0 with a tap in goal of a pretty feed from Tyler Puhl on the power play. Southview scored the lone goal in the 2nd period to close to 2-1 after 2 periods of play. Northview would dominate the 3rd scoring 4 goals. Jon Hymore set up Tyler Cook to extend the Cats lead to 3-1, and Carter Bourland converted a nice individual effort just over a minute later to make it 4-1. Nile Culver would score his first goal of the season to make it 5-1. He took a nice cross ice pass from Puhl to one-time a shot past the Cougar goalie. Matt Cook was welcomed back to the lineup as he scored on just his 3rd shift of the evening to finish off senior night and the Cougars 6-1.

Northview will travel to BG Sunday for a game with the Bobcats.
