Wildcats defeat Bobcats 5-2

by Coach Elliott on February 5, 2007

Northview made it 7 straight over the Bowling Green Bobcats with an impressive 5-2 win in BG Sunday. The win improved the Cats record to 22-9-1 overall and 6-3 in league play. The win also sets up a showdown with Findlay next Friday night for 2nd place in the final league standing. Both teams will come in with identical 6-3 league records.

Northview jumped all over the Bobcats Sunday. Brandon Snead got his 4-point day going with a break away goal for a 1-0 lead. He jumped on a high flip pass from Ian Kelsey for the early lead. Eammon Reynolds scored the first of his 2 just 1 minute later for a 2-0 lead. His hard point shot found it’s way past the BG goalie as Tyler Cook provided a great screen. Northview outshot BG 17-8 for the period. Mychal Montieth hung around the slot to increase the lead to 3-0. He picked up a rebound off Snead’s attempted rap around for the goal. BG closed to 3-1 after 2 periods of play taking advantage of some miscommunication between the defense and Trego for the goal. The Cats would score 2 times in the first 6 minutes of the 3rd to take control of the game. Reynolds fluke bounce off a BG defender found its way to the net for a 4-1 lead, and Snead converted a nice pass from Carter Bourland on the power play for a 5-1 advantage. BG scored late on the power play, but it wasn’t enough as the Cats skated away with the 5-2 win. Trego stopped 21 of 23 shots as he picked up his 22nd victory of the season.

The Cats will finish off regular season play Friday night at 7 versus Findlay.
