Hymore put team first!

by Coach Elliott on April 2, 2007

In the fast paced hockey world, not many players are able to make the position change from defense to forward. This year for the Wildcats, senior Jon Hymore took on this difficult task to help his team. During the off-season, there were some doubts as to whether or not Jon was planning on playing for his senior season. When tryouts came around however, good old “Johnny Boy” was indeed back for his senior year and determined to not only be a part of the team, but to be a difference maker.

Jon joined the team his sophomore year as a defenseman. He was very well liked by his teammates for providing tough physical play for the team. At the beginning of this season, the coaches and Jon agreed a position change to forward would best help the team. This decision has proved to be a productive one. Jon started the season playing with the Cook “Brothers” for a few games. And while he was able to score a few goals early on, the coaching staff knew they could get more value from Jon as a “grinder”. Jon is currently playing along side his brother Kyle and Tyler Cook on what has become Northview’s version of the grind line. He is also a lead penalty killer for a unit that has killed off nearly 89% of opposing teams power plays. His determination to do the small things to help his team win have held him in high esteem with his coaches.

A few weeks into the season, the coaching staff rewarded Jon’s team first attitude by Making him a assistant captain. Jon’s hard work and sacrifice for the team made the decision a no-brainer. While many captains lead only by example, Jon has been a vocal leader in a locker room full of character.

Jon, along with his brother Kyle and his parents Joann and Gary have been a valued part of the Northview hockey family. After graduation Jon would like to attend College to further his education. Congratulations Jon on a great season and good luck Cats!
