Cats take 2 over weekend!

by Coach Elliott on December 5, 2005

The Wildcats got off to a great start in the NHC this past weekend with a BiG win over perennial league favorite Bowling Green 4-2. They also looked strong in traveling to Hudson for a 8-1 pasting of the Explorers.
In the first game the cats jumped out to an early lead as Adam Thanasiu sent a pin point pass to a streaking Brandon Snead for a break away goal. BG would answer however with 2 of their own as the cats looked a little jittery after 1. The second period saw more back and forth play as the cats started to catch their rythym. NV was able to get the equallizer on a power play goal by Alden Hirschfeld with just under a minute left. The 3rd period was one of the finest in recent memory. The cats sent a barrage of shots and scoring opportunities at the Bobcats until Tim Hurst’s game winner found the net. They didn’t let up there as they continued to roll across the BG blue line with Snead capping of his night with his second of the game. Bobby McElheney played solid in the twine for the victory and roll players such as Tyler Cook and Kyle Hymore gave the team valuable minutes with their physical play and hard work.
On Sunday the cats traveled to Cleveland for a game with Hudson. They impressively avoided any letdowns by pouncing early and often on the explorers. 3 Goals by Hirschfeld 2 by Cody Bourland along with single markers by Hurst, Thanasiu, and the career first from Christian Simon provided the offense. Craig Trego picked up the victory with help from a strong defensive core of Nic Saenz, Tyler Puhl, Eamonn Reynold, Thanasiu, Rookie Mike Moyer and the return of Zac Pizza for the weekend.
The Cats will prepare hard this week for 2 tough matchups. Friday they will host Pennsylvania power Meadville at 5:00 before return to league play with a matchup against rival St. Johns at 2

Great game against BG fellas. 4-2 makes it sound closer than it actually was. The 3rd period was fantastic.

Keep up the great work.
