Cats stumble out of the gates settle for consolation game win

by Coach Elliott on November 26, 2012

The 2012-13 Northview Wildcats did not get off to the kind of start they would have liked this past weekend as they dropped their 1st 2 games of the season and had to settle for a 3rd place finish in the Cold Turkey Thanksgiving Tournament.

In the season opener the Cats looked out of sorts in dropping a 6 to 5 decision to eventual tournament champions Prairie Ridge. 2 goals each from Zack Galecki and Xavier Sudlow along with a single goal from Drew Crandall could not overcome the parade to the penalty box that disrupted any chance for a win.

The Cats played much better the following morning versus Gimour Academy. However the breaks would not go their way as they dropped their 2nd in a row 4 to 2. Northview peppered the Gilmour net with 40 shots, but only seniors Nick Laplante and Drew Crandall were able to find the back of it as Gilmour goalie Sam Dallas stood on his head.

Saturday evening the Cats found their way into the win column with a 8 to 1 win over a club team from Freemont. 8 different Cats scored in the balanced attack including the career 1st from Ben Suchomma and Zander Pryor. Ian Clement, Brandon Bihn, Cody Estrel and Caleb Rau all got their 1st of the season in the win. Preston Due made 17 saves for his 1st win for the varsity.

Northview would take on Gilmour in the 3rd vs 4th consolation game. The Cats would not be denied a second time as they took the play to the Lancers for a 5 to 2 win. The Cats built a 3 to 0 lead on goals from Clement, Estrel and Rau before Gilmour closed to 3 to 2. Calecki kept his fine weekend going to restore the 2 goal cushion heading to the 3rd. The Cats stood tall in the 3rd and Kooper Carter put it away with his goal for the final margin. Junior David Marsh made 17 saves for his 1st win of the season.

Come check out the Cats when they open up league play versus St. Francis in a battle of the past 2 state champions this Friday night Nov. 30th @ 9
