Cats start defense of league title with win over St. Francis.

The Northview Wildcats ran their win streak in the NHC to 9 straight in regular season play with a 4 to 0 shutout over St. Francis this past friday night at Tam-o-Shanter.  After running the table for a perfect 8 and 0 season last year the Cats picked up win #1 in hopes of a repeat for the NHC red division crown.

Zack Galecki would get the Cats on the board near the end of the 1st period to break a scoreless tie with what would end up being the eventual game winner. The score would remain that way until the 3rd period. After killing off 2 consecutive 5 on 3 penalties, the Cats were awarded a power-play of their own. It didn’t take long to capitalize as Junior Cody Estrel scored from the point for a 2 goal cushion. Estrel would score another just minutes later to push the lead to 3 to 0, and Connor Simon would hit for an empty net goal for the final margin.

That was more than enough for net minder David Marsh. The Junior stopped all 19 shots he faced for his 1st shutout of the season. The win pushed the Cats over the 500 mark with their 3 straight win.  Northview will travel to Bowling Green this friday night before hosting Bedford Saturday for 2 crucial games in the chase for the league title.
