Strong showing against Cleveland Catholic schools has Cats eager for the regular season

The Northview hockey team did everything but finish all 45 minutes against University School and Walsh Jesuit this past weekend. Leading 4-2 with under 5 minutes left Friday night the Cats allowed a short-handed goal and then a game tying goal with under a minute left to give away a win versus the Preppers. Justin Maroszek scored to open the scoring off a rebound from the shot of Trevor Klee. Klee made it 2-0 with a breakaway goal before U.S. scored a pair of their own. Newcomer Jake Ruehle then scored a pair of hard working goals late in the second period for a 4-2 lead after 2. However the Preppers would not be denied as they scored a pair late to steal the win out from under the Cats.

Saturday Morning the Cats again controlled much of the 1st 2 periods in building a 2-0 lead. Zach Doner scored his 3rd of the preseason and Yaseen Mustapha scored as well. Mason Snyder played well in net in shutting out the Warriors through 2 periods of play. Tyler Beattie got his 1st varsity action in goal but the Cats lackluster effort in the 3rd led to numerous scoring opportunities for the Warriors. Walsh took advantage and scored 3 unanswered to walk away with a 3-2 win.

Northview will kick off the regular season as they play host to their annual Cold Turkey Thanksgiving Tournament. Traditional powers St. Francis and St. Edward’s will get it started with a bang on Friday. The Knights are up 1st with a 3:00 O’Clock start time followed by a 9:00 showdown with the Eagles. The JV will also kick off regular season play with a game at 7:00 against Fremont.
