Crandall scores dramatic OT game winner to propel Cats into the elite 8!

The Northview Wildcats moved into the elite 8 and the District final with a dramatic 4 to 3 overtime win over Findlay this past Saturday night at Tam-o-Shanter. David Crandall’s 2nd of the night proved to be the game winning goal as the Cats moved on to the district final for the 3rd year in a row.

The game was scoreless heading into a hectic 2nd period that saw both teams score a shorthanded goal along with a pair of Power Play goals each for a 3-3 tie. Sophomore Riley Ames opened the scoring just a minute into the 2nd period as his shot from the point on the power play found the back of the net and a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived as Findlay jumped on a loose puck for a breakaway goal to tie it at 1. However The Cats responded right back as senior Camren Horvath sent a shot bar down to put the Cats back on top 2-1. Unfortunately minutes later Horvath was whistled for a check from behind as was issued a 5 minute major and a 10 minute misconduct. The Cats would have to survive with 1 of their leading scorers in the box for 15 minutes and kill off the 5 minute major. Senior David Crandall was able to convert a pass from Josh Bisson as his Shorthanded goal was sandwiched with a pair of Findlay power play goals for a 3 to 3 tie after 2. Both teams had opportunities in the 3rd but Findlay goalie Cody Mlsna and Sophomore Wildcat goalie Austin Nowak stood tall as the game headed to overtime. After both teams traded a couple of shots early it was Crandall who found a loose puck of a poke check from Benny Seals and skated down the right side before sending a rocket to the upper corner over Mlsna’s stick side to send the Northview faithful and his teammates crazy in the 4 to 3 final!!
