Cats Hot at Cold Turkey

Monday, November 28th, 2005

The Cats got off to a strong start this past weekend as they hosted the Cold Turkey Thanksgiving Tournament. They went 4-0 to take home the championship and get the 2005-06 season off to a successful start.
In the season opener the Cats took on long time nemesis Centerville as coach Cooper went for win 500. The cats scored early and often en route to a 8-0 drubbing of the Elks. Alden Hirschfeld and Adam Thanasiu led the attack with a hat trick each. Newcomers Brandon Snead and Cody Bourland scored their first as Wildcats. Strong Defence and solid goaltending from Senior Bobby McElheney kept Centerville scoreless. Many Alumni and fans were on hand for the monumental victory for Coach Coop. Congratulations Coach!
On Saturday Morning the cats took on Mentor HS. After a lack luster start the cats offense again took charge in the 9-2 pasting of the Mustangs. Hirschfeld led the way with his 4 goals, Snead and Hurst scored a pair and M. Cook scored his first of the year. Craig Trego played well in net for the victory.
That evening the cats played a strong Trinity Trojan squad. An early Trinity goal and 3 break away chances had the cats reeling. 3 key saves from McElheney and a highlight reel goal from Hirschfeld kept the cats even after 1 period of play. The cats seized control of the game in the second period with a flurry of goals to pull away in the 7-1 final. Hirschfeld again led the way with 3 goals, M. Cook scored a pair with Snead and Eric Lavoy each adding a goal.
The 3 victories put the Cats into the Championship game to once again face Trinity. The cats controled the pace and tempo of the game for much of the afternoon in the 4-0 blanking. Single goals each by Hurst, Thomas Monteith, Thanisau and Snead provided the scoring as solid Defence from Tyler Puhl, Eamonn Reynolds, Nic Saenz, Jon Hymore, and Thanasiu helped Trego pitch the shutout.
Next week the Cats will open league play with a home game Saturday at 7 -Vs- Bowling Green.

Coop wins #500

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Friday November 25th was a very special day for Coach Jim Cooper. Not only was it the beginning of another year as coach of the wildcats, #31 in his illustrious career, but he went into this season looking for victory #500.
He would get the chance for the career milestone versus an old nemesis Centerville. Centerville had ousted his wildcats in the district finals 3 times in the late 90’s. This night would be different however as the cats scored early and often as they rolled to an 8-0 victory in front of many family, friends and former players. As the clock ran out and the signs in the crowd read 500 Coop, who has forever put his players and team in front of himself, was able to bask a little in the glory of what only he and two other Ohio HS hockey coach have accomplished.
All of the players, family and freinds would like to congratulate you on this achievement and thank you for all of the time and love you have brought to so many of us and the program.
