Cats win rematch with SJJ!!

The Wildcats picked up 2 must needed wins this past weekend over St. Johns and Findlay to push their record to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in NHC league play. The wins keep the Cats in the hunt for a repeat for a league championship and avenged their only league loss to the Titans 1 week ago.

Friday nights game versus the Titans was a classic. 2 of the state heavy weights exchanged blows for 45 minutes with the Cats edging the Titans 1 to 0 on Senior captain Drew Crandall’s 20th goal of the season. Junior goaltender David Marsh would make it hold up as he made 19 saves, many high quality, for the shutout win in the nets. Northview came in knowing a loss would allow the Titans to clinch the NHC league title and still stinging form the 4 to 0 loss a week earlier. It was different result on this night. The Cats relentless fore-check starting paying dividends as they forced the Titans into numerous turnovers. Crandall was finally able to get 1 past St. Johns net-minder Michael Barrett of a nice assist from Zander Pryor to break the deadlock at the 12 minute mark of the 3rd period. The win gave the Titans their 1st loss in league play in a battle of the top 2 teams in the state.

On Saturday night the Cats took on Findlay. After a great start staked the Northview to a 3 to 0 lead after 1 period of play, they had to hold on and hit the empty net for a 4 to 2 win.  Crandall continued his fine weekend with a pair of goals and fellow seniors Pryor and Nick Laplante also scored in the win. Sophomore Preston Due stopped 30 shots for the Cats in net.

This weekend the Cats travel back to Kent State for the MLK holiday weekend.

They will return to league play and raise their 2012 state championship banner on January 26th versus BG at Tam-o-Shanter with a special 6:30 start time!!!
