The Wildcats split a pair of league games over the weekend, winning 5-2 -vs- St. Francis on Friday before losing a 5-1 decision -vs- St. Johns Saturday evening. Northview rebounded Sunday for a 4-1 win over Pennsylvania Mt. Lebanon.
Friday night the Cats fell behind 2-0 mid-way through the game before freshman spark plug George Wilkinson scored to draw the Cats closer at the end of 2 periods of play. Jon Hymore tied the game at 2 early in the third with a typical hard working goal. The game went back and forth until Carter Bourlands shot defelected past St. Francis goalie Charlie McAnnich for the first lead of the evening with just under 4 minutes left to play. Eammon Reynolds hit the open net for his first goal of the year and Wilkinson literally closed the lights out on the Knights for the 5-2 win. Trego played well in nets as the Cats set up a first place showdown with the Titans.
Saturday evening did not go as planned. Wilkinson provided the only highlight of the night. his top shelf goal tied the score at 1 mid-way through the first period, but it was all St.Johns from there. 4 Unanswered goals provided the final margin as the Cats suffered their worst loss of the year, 5-1.
Still stinging from the loss the prior evening the Cats had to get back at it the following afternoon -vs- Mt. Lebanon. Tyler Cook led an aggressive attack as the Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 1 period of play. Brent Bain’s 2 goals and Mark Hall’s goal had the Cats rolling. Lebanon would score before Eammon Reynolds would again hit a open net to seal the win. Trego rebounded from the loss Saturday night with another solid effort in goal.
The Cats return to League play this Friday for a rematch with St. Francis at 9. Northview remains in second place with 4 games remaining in league play.
