Cats win 2, fall to Ed’s in Pennsylvania

The Wildcats played 3 games over the Martin Luther King Weekend in Meadville Pennsylvania and came away with 2 wins. However a loss to St. Edwards in round robin play knocked the Cats out of te Tournament.

In the first game the Cats took on defending Pennsylvania state champs LaSalle. The Cats had never beat LaSalle over the years, but played perhaps their best game of the season in earning a 4 to 1 win.  Zach Felser opened the scoring for the Cats before a LaSalle goal knotted the score at 1 apiece. The score would stay that way until the 3rd period when Aaron Booth connected for a powerplay goal and Mark Hall scored to give the Cats a 3 to 1 lead. With the goalie pulled Booth would seal the win with his second goal of the game hitting the empty net.

The Next Morning the Cats took on Penn. Leboeuf.  Brady Storer scored his 1st career goal and Nolan Culver added a goal for a 2-0 lead after 1.  The Cats would push the lead to 5-1 after 2 periods of play on goals from Hall, Felser and Culver’s second of the game. Northview would let a very important point get away in the modified scoring system in the 3rd as Leboeuf scored late on the powerplay for the final 5-2.

That evening leading their division the Cats took on St. Edwards needing just a point and a half to earn a spot in the semi-finals Sunday morning. Nothing went right in this one. 2 early 1st period goals by Ed’s helped knock the Cats from the Tournament. Nolan Culver provided the only highlight as the Cats were sent home with a 5-1 loss.

Overall the Cats had a decent weekend, but their inability to play consisitent hockey cost them in the end. Northview will look to rebound as they return to league play Friday night versus St. Francis.
