Cats put in good showing at Meadville

by Coach Elliott on January 14, 2007

The Wildcats played well at the Meadville MLK tourney, however that did not result in many wins! Playing perennial state powers from Pennsylvania and Ohio the Cats were only able to muster up a win and a tie in four games.

Friday night the Cats faced off against defending Pennsylvania state champ Mt. Lebanon. Carter Bourland was on fire. His empty net goal capped off a three goal night as the Cats won 4-2. Jon Hymore chipped in with a goal as Craig Trego picked up the win.

The Cats found goals hard to come by on Saturday. They fell short in a tight checking game with St. Edwards in the morning 2-0, and tied Gilmour Academy that evening 0-0. Northview did earn enough points during the round robin to play their way into the semi-finals vs Pennsylvania Lasalle.

Sunday Morning vs Lasalle was a excellent game. Lasalle would get on the board first before a nice goal by Bob Napierala tied it at 1. Again Lasalle would strike before Bourland capatilized to tie it at 2. Defensive breakdowns late in the second sent the Cats to the intermission down 4-2. Northview played a very strong 3rd period, however Brent Bains goal could only close the gap to 4-3 as the final buzzer sounded.

Congratulations to Carter Bourland who was named to the all tournament team. The Cats return to league play this weekend with the Catholics. They face of Friday night against St. Francis, before a Saturday night tilt against St. Johns. They will also have a rematch with Mt. Lebanon on Sunday afternoon.
