The Northview Wildcats improved to 6-1-1 overall and 4-0 in league play with a pair of wins this past Weekend. On Friday night the Cats traveled to Findlay and won 6-0 before returning to Tam-o-Shanter with a win over league favorite St. Francis on Saturday 3 to 2.
Friday Night the Cats headed south to the House of Pain for a contest with the Trojans and welcomed Seniors Austin Wolf and Kevin Klever to the lineup. Always a tough atmosphere to play in the Cats took Findlay’s home crowd out of the game early. Just over 5 minutes into the Contest the Cats pressure paid off. After winning the Face off Dalton Carter went to the net and was able to tip home a shot from Ross Roberson for a 1-0 lead. Carter would make it 2-0 just under 3 minutes later on the Power play. His shot from the slot found the back of the net and the Cats would never look back. Early in the 2nd period the Cats would hit on the power play once again. Junior Zach Felser found a loose puck in the crease and slid it home for a 3 to nothing lead. After a mix-up in the locker room that had the team in a frenzy the Cats were able to regroup for 3 goals in the final period for the final margin 6 to 0. Carter continued his scoring barrage with his 3rd of the game before a pair of players recorded their 1st career goals. First Sophomore Nick Laplante knocked home a power play goal after some hard work in front by Freshman Cody Estrel, then Klever capped off a great night as his hard work in front was rewarded with a goal for the final score. Junior Goaltender Phil Bowles continued his torrid start with his 4 win in as many start and second shutout. He has given up just 2 goals on the season and made 17 saves for the win.
On Saturday night the Cats returned to Tam-o-Shanter for an early season battle with league favorite St. Francis. Behind the backing of a great home Crowd the Cats did not dissapoint. Mid-way through the 1st period Senior Aaron Booth would give the Cats a 1 to 0 lead. After selling out in the defensive zone to block a shot Booth was rewarded as he converted a nice pass from Nolan Culver for the goal. The Knights would tie the game 8 minutes into the 2nd, but Ryan Laplante converted on a power play feed from Drew Korn just 2 minutes later to give the Cats a lead they would never relenquish. Tyler Harding gave the Cats a 2 goal cushion early in the 3rd period as his shot from the point on the power play increased the lead to 3 to 1. Junior Goalie Austin Gryca took over from there. His 37 saves, many of them of high quality, provided for his best effort of the young season and the back bone for a 3 to 2 win. The win give the Cats an early advantage in the race for a league title.
