Cats fall to 1-3 in the NHC with 2 tough losses

The Northview Wildctas are still learning how to win games consistently. The difference between winning and losing in the NHC red division can happen in an instance. The Cats have had many opportunities to capture each of their 4 league games, yet find themselves with a 1-3 record after a 3-2 loss in Findlay and a 4-3 loss to the Titans of St. Johns. With parity amongst teams being as close as ever in recent memory the Cats must find a way to win the close games if they have hopes for a successful end to their season.

On Friday Jan. 2nd the Cats traveled to Findlay. Nolan Culver opened the scoring in the first period finishing off a nice play from Josh Cole to stake the Cats to a 1-0 lead after 1 period of play. Bob Napierala scored on the power play on a nice individual effort to make it 2-0. However, Findlay would score the games final 3 goals to take the hard fought win 3 to 2.

This past Friday the Cats brought a much better effort to Tam-o-Shanter for a contest with St. Johns. After the Johnies opened the scoring with a Power play goal, Kyle Hymore found the net with a power play goal of his own to tie it at 1. Hymore would trade goals once more with the Titans as his one-time blast from the point had the game squared at 2. The Johnies would take the lead before the end of the second period 3-2. The Third period saw a very unexpected goal for the Cats. Senior Jordan Keefe jumped of the bench and provided a spark as his centering pass deflected home off a St. Johns defenceman for his first career goal to knot the game at 3. Teams traded scoring chance with Cats goalie Matt Stevenson making some quality saves before the Titans found the back of the net with just over 3 minutes left to hand the Cats a 4 to 3 loss.

Saturdays game Versus Centerville was canceled due to inclement weather. No make-up has been announced nor planned.

Northview will travel to Meadville for their annual Martin Luther King Jr. tournamentCats. They will return to Tam-o-SHanter for NHC play on January 23rd and 24th versus St. Francis and Findlay.
