Cats continue improved play in Meadville

by Coach Elliott on January 30, 2014

The Wildcats propelled by a win over #1 state ranked St. Johns the previous weekend carried the momentum into the MLK holiday tournament this past weekend with a great showing in the Meadville Bulldog invitational. 2 wins over Pennsylvania’s Bethel Park and Erie Cathedral Prep along with a tie versus #2 Ohio state ranked St Ignatius in the round robin games places the Cats into the semi-finals versus St Edwards. Playing with a depleted lineup that was missing top line centers Caleb Rau and Josh Koback along with still injured Jared Hilou and a banged up Zach Doner, the Cats pushed the Eagles to the final moments. A disallowed goal and some near misses eliminated Northview in the semis 3 to 2.

In the round robin games the Cats were backed by powerful 3rd periods. Northview outscored its opponents 6 to 1 in the 3rd period during the 3 games to win 4 to 2 over Bethel, 5 to 4 over Erie Cathedral Prep and earn a 1 to 1 tie with Iggy. However falling behind came back to bite them versus Ed’s. They were unable to dig their way out of a 3 to 0 hole in the defeat.

Cody Estrel was named player of the game for both wins in Pa. and goalie David Marsh earned player of the game recognition for his play in the 1 to 1 tie with Iggy. Estrel was also named to the all-tornament teams, congrats Cody!!

The 2 wins, loss and a tie bring the Cats overall record to 9-11-1. They will look to get back over the .500 mark with 3 games this coming weekend. On Friday night they will play host to Bowling Green in a make-up from a cancellation from earlier in the year. Game time is set for 9 o’clock. The boys will then head to South Bend for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday with Marian Adams and South Bend St. Joes.
