A salute to Ryan Laplante

by Coach Elliott on January 28, 2011

Ryan Laplante has put in the work over the past 3 seasons with the Cats and is now being rewarded for it on and off the ice. Earlier this season Ryan was awarded a captains letter for his role as 1 of the leaders in the locker room. On the ice Ryan has become a power forward who has scored some of the timeliest goals this season. When the Cats have needed a spark this season Ryan has been one of the go to players.

Ryan came to the Cats hockey team for the start of his sophomore season. During his 1st season Ryan played defense and helped the Cats to a 2nd place league finish and a berth in the district finals where they eventually lost in double overtime.

Last year Ryan moved to the Wing for his Junior season and begun to display the scoring touch and physical play that has been so important for the team. It wasn’t until the midpoint of last season before Ryan really started to take off. He scored his 1st career goal in the St. Ignatius holiday tournament and finished with 7 total goals and 17 points. His goal in the district semifinal win over St. Johns helped propel the Cats to the state frozen four where they finished state runner-up.

This year Ryan has continued that momentum and has helped put his Cats into position for a league title. His 11 goals rank 2nd on the team, but it has been the timely fashion of many of them that have helped the Cats when they needed them the most.  With 3 games remaining in the league Ryan and his teammates will need to build momentum for the league race, league playoffs and a run at a state title. Good luck Ryan on the rest of your Senior season and Congratulations!
